Wet racing at Chatsworth Rally

SWAT and the Muc-off Motorsport cleaning team want to say thanks to all those die-hard fans who battled through the torrential rain to see some amazing rally action over the weekend at the third edition of the Rally Show at Chatsworth in Derbyshire. Those who attended were able to see, and even meet some of the best in the Rally world, with a line up of drivers from Mikko Hirvonen, Meeke, Blomqvist, and double British Rally Champion Guy Wilks.

Guy Wilks, national title winner in 2007 and 2008, represented the British team in the Nations Cup event on both the Saturday and Sunday and thanks to sponsor Varta Consumer Batteries visitors to the show had a chance of meeting him.

Mikko Hirvonen drove his M-Sport Ford Focus WRC, making him the third of the Flying Finns to visit the Show, starting with the original Flying Finn, Rauno Aaltonen in 2007 and then the visit of Marcus Gronholm last year. Hirvonen excelled as usual, and in keeping up the Finn tradition terrified the commentators’ as they rode with him, trying to speak at the same time.

Tom Cave, the 17 year-old from Aberdyfi in Wales, who became the youngest driver ever to compete in the UK round of the FIA World Rally Championship last year was also racing and is a champion of the future. If you want to see for yourself, Tom will be demonstrating his Group N Ford Fiesta ST at the Wales Rally GB,

The sight of the Blue Oval was strong at Chatsworth as there was a special event added to the programme featuring competitors in the Kick Energy Fiesta Sporting Trophy. This knockout competition was held on Saturday between the current top six classified drivers and Craig Breen drove to a spectacular win, followed closely by Chris Hall in second. Breen’s victory saw him rewarded with the chance to drive and debut in the UK the brand new Fiesta R2 rally car, by MSport.

So, despite the weather, Muc-Off Motorsport will find it hard to beat this weekend.
